SUMMARY:Water: Beyond H2O
DESCRIPTION:Water: Beyond H2O\nWater is crucial to biodynamics: Not only to water plants\, but for the process of stirring\, which potentizes the preparations. But do we really know what water is\, what tasks it has in life processes\, or how it carries them out? Jennifer Greene of the Water Research Institute takes us far beyond what we commonly know\, or suppose we know\, of this element. \nJennifer Greene is Executive Director of the Water Research Institute of Blue Hill\, ME. Since the 1980s\, she has been a pioneer of flow forms in the United States\, and continues the work of Theodor Schwenk in documenting water quality through the “drop picture” method.

SUMMARY:Seeing Nature Whole / Life Rhythms and Planting Calendar
DESCRIPTION:Seeing Nature Whole / Life Rhythms & Planting Calendar\nIn the morning\, Craig Holdrege explores how to work with the living dynamic qualities of plants and animals to better understand the world around us. In the afternoon\, Sherry Wildfeuer\, a long-time editor of the Stella Natura planting calendar\, explains how the calendar is created\, what it tells us\, and how we can use it to learn to work with\, rather than against\, nature’s rhythms and forces. \nCraig is a biologist\, an educator\, and Director of The Nature Institute in Ghent\, NY\, a research and education organization for a unique qualitative approach to science. Craig is the author of many books and articles on genetic engineering\, genetics\, and a holistic\, Goethean approach to science. \nSherry is the editor of the Stella Natura Biodynamic Planting Calendar\, a co-worker at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills\, PA\, and a long-time active member of the Anthroposophical Society and the Agriculture Section of the School of Spiritual Science.

SUMMARY:Midwinter Agriculture Intensive
DESCRIPTION:Midwinter Agriculture Intensive\nBEE\, COW\, & WORM:\nTHE INTERCONNECTED\nAGRICULTURAL INDIVIDUALITY\n\nAt the heart of biodynamics is the image of caring for the earth and her kingdoms\, as you would for a living being\, that can unfold and develop into an independent\, self-sustaining individuality. The animals that live within (the worm)\, upon (the cow)\, and above (the bee) the earth will be our focus for this Midwinter’s Agriculture Intensive. Each of these realms have a digestive process within that transforms and creates something new\, a gift for the land that is future-bearing. Lectures 4\, 7 and 8 in Rudolf Steiner’s course\, Agriculture\, will be the supporting foundation for our journey together. We hope to deepen our relationship with these visible beings\, as well as their unseen counterparts in the elemental world\, who play such a vital role in weaving together the farm individuality. \nWe will spend this festive Midwinter time in lecture\, conversation\, meal sharing\, and artistic and practical activities. And of course\, you won’t want to miss our much anticipated annual talent show! \n\n\nWho is this course for?\nThis course is most accessible to those who have some familiarity with Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual scientific perspective\, but is open to all. SUMMARY:Large Animals and the Farm Organism
DESCRIPTION:Large Animals & The Farm Organism\nThe ideal biodynamic farm is a self-contained individuality to which cows contribute milk\, meat\, and soil fertility. Megan Durney shares about the essential nature of the animal\, and Kim Vaughan covers the basics of biodynamic dairy herd management\, including rotational grazing and pasture management. The day includes a visit to our herd\, cow barn\, and dairy\, the only one in Rockland County. \nAs Farm Manager\, Megan coordinates the daily work on our farm\, and is an instructor in our One-Year Part-Time Training. She takes a leading role in planning and carrying out our annual Plant Sale and each season’s vegetable production. She directs our seed saving\, herb growing\, and herbal product production\, manages our CSA\, Farm Stand\, and sales to other outlets. Megan is a board member of the Nature Institute and Biodynamic Demeter Alliance (BDA). Megan joined the Pfeiffer Center as an intern in 2006\, and became a staff member in 2010. In 2014-2015\, she studied seed saving under Harald Hoven at Raphael Garden in Fair Oaks\, CA. \nAs Herdsperson and Dairy Manager\, Kim heads up the only dairy herd in Rockland County. In addition to supporting all aspects of farm operations and administration\, she is an active member of the Fellowship Community’s Administrative Circle and Community Council. Kim first met biodynamics at a year-long course with Harald Hoven at Raphael Garden in Fair Oaks\, CA. She soon joined their CSA and became a star volunteer\, serving on the steering committee\, organizing fundraisers\, and milking the cows on weekends. In 2016\, Kim stepped away from Waldorf kindergarten teaching to become a full-time apprentice at Raphael Garden\, followed by a summer at Fulcrum Farm in Grass Valley\, CA\, where she helped tend a small herd of Scottish Highland cows.

SUMMARY:CANCELED! Water: H2O or Much More?
DESCRIPTION:CANCELED DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES!\nWATER: H2O OR MUCH MORE?\nWater is crucial to biodynamics: Not only to water plants\, but for the process of stirring\, which potentizes the preparations.

SUMMARY:Winter Farm Arts Course for Youth
DESCRIPTION:Winter Farm Arts Course for Youth\nAs the weather cools\, the last of the season’s crops are harvested and the farm beds are put to rest. Over the winter\, the farmers will often look inwards and spend this quieter time reconnecting and renewing their creative spirits. Yet\, there is still some activity on the farm: the animals need to be fed and looked after\, and old gates and other projects need repair that are put aside for a later time. It also is a time for dreaming and planning for next year’s growing season. \nJoin us “over the winter” in our Winter Farm Arts youth program! \nThe Winter Farm Arts course for youth introduces a series of hands-on\, farm-to-table arts skills that inspire and renew the gardeners’ creative spirit during the quieter months on the farm. During this course\, students engage in activities that connect to the work that farmers experience\, guide\, and create in the garden. As the weather warms\, we will return outside and prepare for an early spring planting. \nEach class will consist of a brief introduction of the topic\, a demonstration of the project\, and a hands-on activity complete with a take home project. \nAges: 7-14 \nCost: $300 and $75 material fee\n(each topic/activity includes take home projects/information) \n\nWinter Farm Arts Schedule\n \nFridays\, January 19 – March 29\, 2024\n1:30 pm – 3 pm \nJoin our current group on Friday afternoons. \n\nWeek 1 (Jan 19): Lactic Fermentation & Seasonal Vegetables/Fruits \nWeek 2 (Jan 26): Growing Microgreens & Follow Up Fermentation (One Week Later) \nWeek 3 (Feb 2): Seed Selection & Garden Planning \nWeek 4 (Feb 9): Fiber Arts – Hand Carding & Preparing Wool for Projects \nWeek 5 (Feb 16): Fiber Arts Project Continued \nWeek 6 (Mar 1): Garden Box Construction – Cutting & Measuring \nWeek 7 (Mar 8): Garden Box Continued – Construction & Painting \nWeek 8 (Mar 15): Greenhouse Work & Start Seedlings \nWeek 9 (Mar 22): Early Signs of Spring & Walk around the Farm \nWeek 10 (Mar 29): Planting Early Peas and Onions \n\nFor further details or questions\, email shannon@threefoldcommunityfarm.org\, or click here to tell us about yourself or your youth group.

SUMMARY:Midwinter Agriculture Intensive
DESCRIPTION:The Pfeiffer Center at Threefold Community Farm\nMidwinter Agriculture Intensive\nTHE AGRICULTURAL INDIVIDUALITY\nWith Mac Mead\, Megan Durney\, Kim Vaughan\,\nHarald Hoven\, Alex Tuchman\, Hugh Williams\,\nSea-Anna Vasilas\, Jennifer Kleinbach\n  \nTO REGISTER\, SCROLL DOWN OR CLICK HERE \nIn this centennial year of the lectures “Spiritual Foundations for the Renewal of Agriculture\,” given by Rudolf Steiner in June\, 1924\, we are focusing on what for many is the guiding star for the biodynamic work – the image of caring for the earth and her kingdoms as for a living being that can unfold and develop into an independent self-sustaining individuality. \nWe will explore the inner and outer practices helpful in nurturing this special being in lectures\, open conversations\, and artistic activities. \nApproaching the 100 year anniversary of biodynamics\, we look forward to gathering around the topic of the Agricultural Individuality. As land stewards\, how do we hear the voice of the land and support its manifold expressions? How does our inner life influence the development of the landscape? Please be inspired by the land you live with and bring your landscape with you in spirit to our gathering. On Sunday night we will have a Talent Show where we hope your offerings can be influenced by the landscapes you carry in your hearts. \n***** \nClick here for detailed schedule.\n***** \nThe Midwinter Agriculture Intensive 2024 will include the following presentations: \n“Celebrating the Centennial of the Agriculture Course – Approaching the Agricultural Individuality” by Mac Mead\n(This is part of the conference; separate tickets are also available\, click here.)\nWe’ll look at the context and significance of Rudolf Steiner’s Agriculture lectures given in June 1924 in Koberwitz\, Silesia\, and focus on a central theme\, the agricultural individuality. What are the What\, Why\, How\, and When of this guiding star of biodynamic work? \n“Raphael Garden: An Individuality of Farm & Farmer” by Harald Hoven\nCreating a farm or garden individuality begins with a great deal of consideration\, love\, and confidence that the work can be done. Becoming intimately familiar with each part of your landscape\, the plants\, animals\, and other beings seen and unseen\, helps to bring them together as a whole as you learn to listen and speak to the being of the land. Harald will share his experience shaping the individuality of Raphael Garden for over 30 years and offer insights for your own journey.\n \n“The Spikenard Individuality and Honey Ceremony” by Alex Tuchman\nThe living relationships\, which create a network of kinship in the diversity of a farm ecosystem\, have both a physical reality\, and a spiritual one. Where does the plant end? Where the insect begins! In this time together\, we will explore the wonderful mysteries of the insect world and their interactions and relationships within the agricultural individuality. This time will end with an experiential study of honey through a ceremonial process\, bringing us into a sensory connection and enlivening our relationship to the being of the landscape. \n“Experiencing the Individuality of Your Landscape: Inner Work” by Alex Tuchman\nWho are you? What do you need? How can I serve you? These earnest\, heart-felt questions\, held as a path of inquiry\, inform an experiential process for developing loving interest in the other. When we don’t assume we know it all\, and remove prejudices from our consciousness\, an intimate beholding and communion can happen between us and the other. But how can we do this with an agricultural individuality? Who is this being? The paradox is that this individuality is both one being\, and a dynamic multidimensional being with many faces and facets. We will begin this time together by exploring a spiritual relationship to individuality\, and then go outdoors and engage in experiential exercises to connect and commune. \n“My Karma Ran over My Dogma: Individualizing a Farm” by Hugh Williams\nHugh Williams has worked in biodynamics for almost 5 decades and will share what has most inspired him\, the unfolding of the farm organism into a unique individuality\, crafted in a specific location by individuals karmically connected. \n“Cows and Compost: The Belly of the Land” by Kim Vaughan & Megan Durney (walk and talk)\nThe farm individuality expresses itself before our very eyes. We walk within the belly of the farm in a world that is in constant transformation due to the dynamic metabolic activity of the animals and soil itself. We will explore some lawful relationships that allow the being of the land to be seen. \nSpeech with Jennifer Kleinbach\nWe will start the day with speech — working generally with the elements of our speaking and particularly with the planetary qualities that underly Rudolf Steiner’s beloved verse “Being sprung of the world-all\,” which gives a picture of a stage in the incarnation of a human individuality.\n \nEurythmy with Sea-Anna Vasilas\nIn the harmonious movement art of eurythmy\, we will explore the beings of the planets\, their movements and gestures\, in relationship to a verse given by Rudolf Steiner from the Mysteries of Ephesus. \nThe Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble is presenting an evening program\nA Shovel of Stars Overhead: Where To? What Next?\n(This is part of the conference; separate tickets are also available\, click here.) \n***** \nClick here for detailed schedule.\n***** \nPlease note: This is not an introductory course. SUMMARY:Farm Kindergarten’s Farm Stand
DESCRIPTION:The Green Meadow Waldorf School’s FARM KINDERGARTEN will be selling lotion bars to benefit the Duryea Farm. The Farm Stand will be open from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm this Friday afternoon\, and the children will have the opportunity to be friendly helpers at the table\, taking care of customers. \nWe are looking forward to this fun and meaningful experience. \nThe money/donations will go to a much needed shelter for the large round hay bales\, which the farmers — Duryea Farm\, not the kindergarten — use for the cows. \nThe creams and lotion bars are created from hand plucked chamomile blossoms from the farm kindergarten garden\, are steeped in oil\, and infused in the sunlight for many months. They make for wonderful holiday gifts and come in a little drawstring bag. The lotion bars are created with the children’s enthusiastic help. \nPlease feel free to spread the word!\nIf you have any questions\, contact Carol Grieder.
